Balancing familiarity and AI innovation: a design solution for secondhand sellers.
Role
UX/UI Design & Branding
01
Rastro is a web app that simplifies selling secondhand goods through short descriptive videos. Using AI, it automatically generates product pages and allows quick sharing on selling platforms. I designed the proof of concept and branding for the founder to present to potential users and investors.
02
Sellers often spend too much time listing items, leading many to avoid it (like on Facebook Marketplace, where the process can feel tedious). Platforms like online auctions attract sellers but have outdated interfaces and complex user experiences, limiting their broader appeal. This creates a niche audience of loyal buyers but discourages casual sellers or new users seeking a simpler process.
03
The goal was to design an experience that felt familiar and made AI easy and intuitive. I needed to meet the needs of both experienced auction sellers, who rely on these platforms for their business, and casual users looking for a quick way to sell secondhand furniture. The solution had to blend usability with a modern feel.
04
Since time and resources were limited, I used Google’s Material Design system to keep the interface simple and familiar. This allowed me to focus on usability without needing to create a new system from scratch. For the visual design, I chose blue to represent trust, with a cobalt shade to highlight the modern, AI-powered aspect of the product. Clean typography ensured clear information hierarchy, making the experience straightforward for both user segments.

This mockup helped the founder test his idea. Though he identified a lack of product market fit, it helped him pivot to a more promising product direction we are now collaborating on.
